How to use this calculator

Enter desired course and true airspeed, then wind direction and speed. A positive correction is a turn right into the wind.

The formulaWCA = asin(V × sin(θ) / TAS) · Heading = course + WCA

θ is wind direction minus runway heading or course, normalized to −180° to 180°. V is wind speed. Results round to one decimal; calculations use full precision. Speed units are converted through knots.

A few common questions

Is the correction the same as drift?+

Correction is the heading offset used to cancel wind drift and maintain your chosen track.

Does heading wrap through north?+

Yes. Result headings are normalized between 0° and less than 360°.
